5 Emergency Management Lessons from AHEPP

A big part of emergency management is taking the time to learn from one another.

We do not have the benefit of hindsight when emergency strikes, so we must find opportunities to share stories, experiences, and the lessons learned along the way.

Recently, our team at HAPevolve attended the 2025 Association of Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Professionals (AHEPP) Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. The event brought together experts and practitioners from around the country to discuss advancements in health care preparedness. Our team offered resources for education and solutions for training/exercising and showcased our Portable Response Emergency Plan (PREP) platform.

The event had plenty of preparedness lessons for emergency management leaders across the country. Here are five key takeaways from the event:

1. Emphasis on Comprehensive Education and Training

Continuous education is essential in emergency management. Health care leaders need to be well-versed in crisis management protocols.

Our offerings, including specialized training programs and the PREP platform, align seamlessly with this focus, providing institutions with the tools necessary to enhance their preparedness strategies.

2. Valuable Networking Opportunities

AHEPP serves as a nexus for professionals across the health care preparedness spectrum.

We were thankful for the conference for facilitating meaningful connections, allowing attendees to share insights, challenges, and solutions. Our participation enabled us to engage directly with stakeholders, understand their evolving needs, and tailor our resources to better serve the community.

3. A Focus on Professional Development

There’s always room to enhance leadership and strategic planning skills. Workshops focused on career growth and advancing EM programs provided attendees with insights to advance their careers and think about the big picture.

Our educational resources are designed to support such professional growth, ensuring that individuals and teams are equipped to navigate the complexities of emergency preparedness.

4. Strengthening Response and Resiliency

Emergency managers are building resilience to various threats, including natural disasters and cyber incidents.

Ther have plenty of recent examples to choose from. A case study on one health system’s response to the CrowdStrike outage highlighted the need for effective response strategies.

Our PREP platform offers a unique feature as it will store your information as cache in the application itself. So, when your Internet goes down or you need to “unplug,” your organization is still able to respond effectively to such challenges, thereby enhancing overall resiliency.

5. Access to Cutting-Edge Resources

The exhibition hall featured vendors showcasing the latest tools and technologies in health care preparedness. Our booth attracted significant attention, with attendees expressing interest in our educational materials, training modules, and the interactive capabilities of the PREP platform. Engaging directly with users provided us with invaluable feedback to further refine our offerings.

The 2025 AHEPP Annual Conference highlighted the critical need for robust education, networking, professional development, and resilient response strategies in health care emergency preparedness.

We would like to thank the AHEPP team, speakers, and attendees for the opportunity to participate and meet so many amazing people during our time this year. For additional information about HAPevolve services including PREP, do not hesitate to reach out to me for more information.
